Privacy policy

Your data, in plain English.

The short version

  • We collect as little as we can: your email if you subscribe, your message if you write to us, and anonymous stats about how the site is used.
  • We never sell your data.
  • You can unsubscribe, or ask us to delete your data, anytime.

Who we are

Jotted Paper (jottedpaper.com) is an independent publication founded by Aaron Marshall. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Jotted Paper. For any privacy question, email alive@jottedpaper.com.

What we collect and why

If you subscribe to the newsletter

We collect your email address. The newsletter is run by Beehiiv, which stores your email and records whether emails are opened and links are clicked, so we can see what is worth writing more of. Your email is used only to send you Jotted Paper.

If you use the contact form

We collect your name, email address and your message. It is stored in our website’s database so we can reply to you, and for nothing else.

When you browse the site

We use Google Analytics, through Google Site Kit, to understand which pages are read and how people find us. It collects information such as the pages you visit, your approximate location, your device and your browser. We do not use it to identify you personally.

Our host, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and performance. Our pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers to fetch them.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies to tell one visit from another. WordPress may set functional cookies if you log in or use a form. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site will still work.

Who we share data with

Only the services that keep this site running:

  • Beehiiv, to send the newsletter
  • Google, for analytics and fonts
  • Hostinger, to host the website

These services may process data outside your country. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data.

How long we keep it

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Contact messages: for as long as we need to deal with your message, then deleted.
  • Analytics: in aggregated form, under Google Analytics’ data retention settings.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, or object to how it is used. Email alive@jottedpaper.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR in Europe and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act in India give you these rights. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Jotted Paper is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of the page. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the newsletter.
